Improving Your Electrostatic Process

Improving Your Electrostatic Liquid or Powder Coating Process

In this video, Air Power Specialist Travis Stirewalt and Account Manager Eddie Rhodes, share tips about improving your electrostatic process. Learn how to improve your electrostatic process with expert advice for powder coaters and liquid painters. Discuss best practices that help you put more powder or paint on your parts and less in your filters or the paint booth floor. What does this mean for you? Higher transfer efficiency and less paint (money) wasted by increasing your first pass transfer efficiency. Video from the Air Power, Inc. Chattanooga Branch.

High Performance. High Quality.

Quality control and consistent finish were big goals for a manufacturer of ceramics. This case study delves into how Air Power put together a multifaceted solution to meet this customers finishing needs.

CUSTOMER

This customer is a manufacturer of ceramic products.

CHALLENGE

The customer was operating on an outdated system with no quality control measures in place. There were no gauges to regulate the air and fluid pressure of the system. There was not a way to manage the quality of the finish during the paint process. The system had one huge hose bundle with no way to identify which fluid was delivered via each hose. The only operator who could manage the system was nearing retirement.

SOLUTION

Air Power installed a paint system with a control panel that allowed for individual control of each automated spray gun. This system included large liquid filled gauges for display of air and fluid pressures to allow the customer to manage the system. Our engineers designed a system with neatly organized, color coded hoses for each gun to simplify production management. This allowed new operators to easily perform maintenance on the paint line.

RESULTS

The system changes made succeeded in simplifying this system. This has made it easier for all the operators to learn how to manage, operate, and maintain the paint line. The control panel gave the customer a simple, safe way to start and stop seperate spray guns during the process. This has allowed the customer to control the paint process and usage of paint. This opened the door for more focus on quality control and saved paint and production time.

Graco Electrostatic Demo Kits

Rodney Benfield understands finishing and over the past 31 years at Air Power has learned many skills of the trade.  One known fact is you cannot be successful if not prepared.  Air Power’s Electrostatic Demo Kits allow for just that – being prepared – anyplace, anytime, anywhere.

“These kits are handy” stated Rodney whom has spent a large portion of his time at Air Power focusing on the finishing industry within the Southeast.  “This demo kits stays in my truck and I can deploy it whenever necessary”.

The Air Power Electrostatic Demo Kits contain everything necessary for a successful Graco electrostatic demo including a wide array of nozzles and air caps.  Rodney further specified that “even for existing electrostatic customers, taking in the entire demo kit makes sense.  It allows us to mix/match newly released accessories to optimize the customer’s process and electrostatic experience”

All of Air Power’s finishing specialist have electrostatic demo kits ready to deploy at a moment’s notice.   “Air Power’s primary focus” stated Rodney “is the Southeast and Mexico but, we will go wherever the customer needs us”.

NEW Binks AG-364 Airless Spray Gun

Carlisle Fluid Technologies made an innovation in transfer efficiency when they introduced the new Binks AG-364 Airless Spray Gun. This gun achieves high quality results faster, easier and more efficiently than other spray guns on the market.

Available in dead head or recirculation manifolds, this high-quality airless spray gun helps eliminate excessive paint waste and lengthy cleaning time. The AG-364 accomplishes ultimate transfer efficiency, resulting in: reduced overspray, cleaner machines and reduced applied coating cost per part.  Softer, high-integrity fan pattern also allows for the consistent application of materials to detailed profiles and surfaces. The tip holder indexes 45 degrees with insert and is completely adjustable without insert. The versatility of tips utilized on the AG-364 allows for application of multiple wood finish materials.

As a member of the proven AG family, the AG-364 makes it easy to upgrade from air-assisted airless equipment. It utilizes the same pumps, fluid lines, regulators and fluid pressure ranges for a
seamless transition.

How To Effectively Adjust Your Spray Gun Pattern

How To Effectively Adjust Your Spray Gun Pattern

This video is a step by step guide to show you how to effectively adjust your spray gun pattern. The equipment utilized for this video is the Devilbiss Spray Gun with 1.4MM Needle (standard).

The Fan adjustment (top knob) – clockwise adjustments to narrow pattern, counterclockwise adjustments for wider pattern.

The Needle adjustment (bottom knob) – for fine tuning of fluid flow rate

Air Power recommends that all fluid flow rate adjustments take place on your outbound fluid pressure regulator. By regulating fluid utilizing the fluid needle it will increase needle wear and result in decreased life expectancy. Properly setting your outbound fluid at your fluid source (pressure pot, pump, etc.) utilizing a properly set outbound fluid regulator is the preferred and most effective fluid setting measurement.

How To Properly Set Up A Binks Pressure Pot and Spray Gun Fluid Flow Rate

How To Properly Set Up A Binks Pressure Pot and Spray Gun Fluid Flow Rate

Equipment Utilized – Binks Dual Regulated Pressure Pot + Devilbiss Compact Trans Tech Spray Gun with 1.4mm Fluid Needle

Ist Regulator is for Pot Fluid – ie. Outbound fluid pressure. A good starting point for outbound fluid pressure is 10 lbs.
2nd Regulator is for spray gun atomization air. A good starting point for spray gun atomization air is “double” that of starting fluid pressure.

In order to set your outbound spray gun atomization air, you MUST set using dynamic air pressure (ie. With the gun trigger depressed). When setting fluid flow rate – ultimately this is determined by production demands, but in most cases your fluid stream should be between 6-12 inches from the end of a gun.
